I thought a good second post for my brand new Protein High Foods blog, should be a personal one. One where I’d write about why I wanted another blog. Because, when I think about I have more than enough to do already. I am writing daily posts on my Internet Marketing Blog, and I am writing an e-book about Internet Marketing Mistakes.
And yesterday, I launched Protein High Foods.
Now, let me tell you the story behind the launch and why I am spending my valuable time writing posts about proteins and food containing a high amount of protein.
I am a vegetarian, and I have been a vegetarian for apx. seven years. I think I noticed around the age of 12, that I was going to become a vegetarian, it was just too hard to become one at that age.
There are many reasons why that was difficult, it was the young age (and I was the only one), it was hard to get the right groceries in Norway (it still is) and there are hardly any real alternatives to meat if you want to eat at a restaurant.
Today, I am 100% vegetarian and in order to stay healthy, I need to focus on what I eat. Since I love pizza, I tend to eat it way too often. I also eat “fast” food way too often. By “fast” food, I am not talking about junk food. I am talking about frozen alternatives to meat, like burgers and hot dogs. I am not saying that they are unhealthy, I am just looking for a better alternative.
So, I created Protein High Foods to help me focus on health, vegetarianism and proteins (of course). By writing about it, I believe that it will be a lot easier for me to think about it more often, and to learn a lot more about my way of life, and the healthiest food for vegetarians.
But, don’t be mistaken. This blog will also be for meat eaters. Because the focus will be mostly on proteins, and I will write about “everything” that’s related to proteins – even if it will be about meat.
So, stay tuned because I have a lot of interesting thoughts you don’t want to miss…
I have decided to juice my breakfast (and my late night snack) every day next week. I am going to start tomorrow morning. I bet it’s going to be an interesting week.
You might not think that it’s going to be that hard, but I’ll tell you right now; I am going to have a hard time, at least for a few days. I usually eat my breakfast around 6 am, and my next meal is lunch at 11.30 am. Now, I will only be drinking a few glasses of juice at 6 am, not sure how that will work out for me. I should probably have something to eat before my lunch, maybe I’ll drive back home and drink a juice before lunch. I am not sure yet.
I bought my juicer a while ago, it’s the Philips Wide Chute Aluminum Juicer HR1861.

I have been using it ever since, but unfortunately not every single day. The reason why I am not using it every single day, is that sometimes it’s just so hard to manage to do everything that should be done before work or before I drive my kids to kindergarten. And days like that (a few times a week), I skip my juice, and sometimes even breakfast.
But that’s about to change.
A while ago I bought a very interesting book called Ultimate Fast Food by Jason Vale. You might know him as the Juice Master. It’s about why you should be drinking raw juice (from vegetables) instead of cooking your food.
I especially enjoyed the book since I am a vegetarian, and he had written a lot of nice stuff about why you really should be a vegetarian even though Jason Vale is not a vegetarian (as far as I know).
Anyway, I was inspired by the book and I bought my Philips juicer because the author recommended it. I started using it, and I am still doing it at least a couple of times a week.
Starting tomorrow, I will be drinking my breakfast and I will update this blog every single day. I will be honest with you, and I’ll let you know how the juice tastes, how I am feeling and exactly what will happen to me (nothing dramatic will happen, I can assure you of that).
I will probably start out with carrot juice, maybe I will add some apples. Carrots and apples are a great combination, and I need a great tasting juice to start with on Monday morning. I might be more experimental during the week though.

If you are looking for a great and not too expensive juicer, I recommend that you buy the Philips Wide Chute Aluminum Juicer HR1861. It’s very easy to use, and you can put all the various parts in the dish washer after you have been using it.
This morning I had another exciting juice. I made it out of carrots, cucumber and apples. It tasted great, and it kept me “full” all the way until lunch.
By the way, you should also read:

My first day with carrot juice
I find it interesting that I can manage to only drink a couple of glasses of raw juice and that’s all I really need for up to five hours.
But when I think about it, there’s a lot of food (and energy) in the raw juice. This morning I had 9 carrots, a half cucumber and 4 apples. It ended up as two fairly large glasses of juice, but it’s a lot of food.
Even though I can make many different juices, I always tend to use both carrots and apples together. I mix various vegetables or fruits together with the carrots and the apples to add some extra taste, more food and more energy.
I’ll bet that tomorrow morning, I’ll have exactly the same juice as today.
It tasted good, it was really refreshing and I didn’t get hungry at all until lunch.
Right now, I wish Coca-Cola was healthy. I have been drinking Coca-Cola Zero every day for a week now, and I must say that I really like the taste of it, especially during summer. I am not hooked, I am just having a good time.
First of all, I am drinking Coca-Cola Zero, because there are no calories and I like the taste better than regular Coca-Cola. That’s probably because I haven’t tasted the regular Coca-Cola for so long. The last time I tasted it, it was just way too sweet for me.
I don’t know much about why Coca-Cola is not healthy, or why it’s bad for us… it’s really just something everybody knows. We have been raised that way I guess. Our teachers and our parents have told us that since we were young, and that’s just how it is.
I know three “bad” things about Coca-Cola, and this is just coming from the top of my head.
- Regular Coca-Cola has way too much sugar. You will get fat if you drink too much, and probably a lot of other things as well.
- Coca-Cola (both regular and diet) is not good at all for your teeth. This statement is not just related to Coca-Cola but to all kinds of soft drinks.
- Diet Coke (like Coca-Cola Zero, the one I have been drinking all week) is sugar free, but it contains aspartame, and that’s not good for you at all.
I really wish that Coca-Cola was a healthy alternative. It would have been awesome, because it tastes good, it’s cheap and you can buy it everywhere.
Unlike my raw juice, which is a very healthy alternative, but very expensive, and it’s hard to find all the (exotic) ingredients (because I live in Norway) – but it tastes great though.
Yesterday, I told you about my week of living food. Actually, I am not sure if carrots are living food or just raw food, but I think it’s living food.
Anyway.
I had my two glasses of carrot juice this morning. It tasted great, and that’s all I “ate” for the next four hours. At noon I was hungry, but I didn’t really notice the hunger before then.

I was at work during lunch, and I didn’t have the time to drive back home to make me another juice. I ate the “regular” lunch, and will probably eat pizza for dinner.
I’ll probably drink some more carrot juice later this evening, and maybe I’ll be more experimental with my juice tomorrow morning.
Today, I thought I’d give you some answers to a question you probably haven’t asked yourself yet.
Is raw milk high in protein?
Well, I sort of told you the answer in the title, but now let me tell you why raw milk is high in protein and the reasons why raw milk may be a healthy alternative.
But first, what is raw milk?
Raw milk is milk that has not been pasteurized before consumption. And if you didn’t know, pasteurization is the process of heating liquids for the purpose of destroying bacteria, protozoa, molds, and yeasts (this is according to wikipedia)
Now, why is raw milk a healthy alternative?
Raw milk contains all the amino acids we need and since proteins consist of amino acids, it follows that we need amino acids to build protein. These proteins allow for easy absorption of iron, have anti-cancer properties, and anti-viral properties. They also help prevent bacteria from forming on the teeth, which can cause cavities.
In addition, the protein in raw milk can rid the body of “bad” bacteria and provide antibodies that play an important role in resisting viruses and toxins. These proteins have also been known to decrease the symptoms of asthma.
It should be noted here that pasteurizing milk not only destroys the “good” bacteria and other necessary nutrients, but significantly reduces the overall amount of protein in the milk.
To further delineate the importance of protein in milk, take a look at a label on a carton of regular milk and 1% milk. The protein amount is 16% or 8 grams for both. In raw milk, the protein is 80% casein.
But what is casein?
It is the protein consisting of amino acids which are digested at a slower rate. This is important because it releases the amino acids over a seven-hour period. The whey protein in raw milk is 20%, and its amino acids are released within an hour.
Another question for you (that I’ll try to answer).
Why is slow amino acid release so important?
Ask any body-builder and he will probably tell you that it allows for increased muscle growth which is based upon how well protein breaks down in the body. The slower the body absorbs the protein, the less likely the protein will be suppressed.
Other important components of raw milk are enzymes which are made up of different kinds of proteins. One enzyme found in raw milk, for example, acts as an anti-bacterial agent.
While we know that pasteurized milk is void of some of the necessary nutrients and enzymes that are most beneficial to the body, raw milk contains protein and enzymes as well as vitamins necessary to maintain one’s overall health. Remember, too, that bacteria in raw milk also serves as a protective agent against pathogens.
But even though raw milk is a healthy alternative and is high in protein, it might not be suitable for all people to drink it.
Take a look at:
Why raw milk should be avoided
Usually, the sun is not a problem where I live. I think it’s more that lack of sun (and heat) is a problem. But sometimes, like today, the weather is just awesome and I am not really complaining (at least not yet).
A while ago, I bought a very interesting book about running. That’s because I haven’t actually been running much, but I wanted to start, and why not read a book about it before I got started? It was the perfect match. The runner’s handbook and me.
I really recommend this book; you should read it if you are already interested in running, or you are about to start running, or even if you have been running for a while. It’s a book for beginners as well as for experts.
The book is all about running and it’s 752 pages, so you really don’t need another book about running.
But today, the book didn’t help me much. I have to admit that I haven’t read all the 752 pages yet, and it might be a few tips regarding the sun (it probably is), and I guess I should have read it before I started running earlier today.
It was actually too hot for me, I ran for about 20 minutes, and I got so tired. It was almost like I collapsed out in the woods by myself. I had to start walking, and I walked all the way back home.
I just couldn’t run at all, the heat was killing me. It was about 28 degrees Celsius. I thought that the high temperature wouldn’t actually be a problem out in the woods, but I was wrong.
I have been drinking my raw juice every single day, but so far I have also added coca-cola, pizza and potato chips to my eating and drinking habits for the week.
It’s interesting, as soon as my wife and kids leaves the house, I start eating and drinking junk. I am not sure why, but I guess it has to do with my instincts as a man. I just need to do “everything” that I am not “allowed” to do with my family around.
I am not going into details, I don’t want to scare you off
I have the one running collapse, I have been to one basketball practice, and that’s it when it comes to exercise this week. And if you add all the junk food and the coca-cola, it’s been quite a week.
I have had a lot of fun though.
At the time I am writing this, I am so full of ice cream, pizza and potato chips, I can’t even understand that I am actually writing about food.
I guess it’s time that my week of food-disaster is coming to an end, and that I get my life back on track again. Well, just one more day, tomorrow it’s time to watch Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and maybe The Happening. And every time I am at the theaters, I just can’t stop myself from eating candy. I am not sure why, my guess is that it has become a habit.
But it’s no crisis, at least not yet. I am still a lean, mean, fighting machine
It’s a fact that we need protein, I am not going to argue about how much protein we need, but from what I have been told, we really need protein.
It’s a fairly complex statement, because as you were told a few days ago from the video I posted related to the protein myth, I asked the question; do we really need protein?
The reason I asked this, is that a lot of people argue that you can get everything you need from raw foods (vegetables). Remember that I am a newbie at this, but from what I understand, amino acids are the basic structural building units of protein and vegetables consists of fairly great amounts amino acids.
Remember, I am talking about raw foods and not cooked vegetables.
I just read that a protein is a long train of amino acids linked together. And that proteins are really the construction material of the human body, like bricks are for a building.
It seems to me that people like you and me can get enough protein by eating raw vegetables (probably cooked vegetables as well), but body builders need meat or at least dairy products to get enough proteins to build their huge muscles, or maybe not?
So, we need protein because it’s essential to our body.
Our tissues, nerves, and bones are made up mostly of protein. Proteins help give structure to our cells and is used for growth, tissue repair, used to make essential hormones and enzymes.
But how much protein do we need, and do we really need to think about our proteins?
I told you yesterday, that I was going to watch at least one movie today and that I always eat candy when I am at the theater. And that’s exactly what happened.
But I ate a lot less than I thought I was going to.
I watched two movies; The Incredible Hulk and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They were both ok, but not as entertaining as I hoped they would be.
Today was another day with pizza for dinner, and of course another day of Coca-Cola Zero. I ate a huge popcorn at the movie theater, but I didn’t eat any candy during the first movie (the Incredible Hulk), that’s probably because I was so full after eating the pizza.
Now, I am going to stop eating all this candy and junk food for a while and focus on the healthy alternatives. And I’ll continue exercising, because this week has been a total disaster when it comes to eating and exercising.
I’ll keep you updated.
