I am currently reading an awesome book about running, it’s called What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by famous author Haruki Murakami.
The book is not an ordinary book about running, not like The Runner’s Handbook, it’s really not a book about how you can learn to run.
At the moment I have read about half the book, and it’s really fascinating. It’s the story about who Haruki Murakami is, it’s the story about how he became a writer and how and why he started to run. It’s a memoir and a personal story, where he tells his reader about why he loves to run. It takes us through his races and some of his struggles.
Like when he ran a full marathon that ended badly.
… my legs suddenly stopped following orders. They began to cramp up, and it got so bad I couldn’t run anymore. I tried stretching, but the back of my thighs wouldn’t stop trembling, and finally cramped up into this weird knot. I couldn’t even stand up, and before I knew it I was squatting down beside the road.
The reason I bought What I talk about when I talk about running wasn’t just to get inspired to run more and a greater distance, because I have alread read The Runner’s Handbook (great book by the way), but I wanted to read about a famous author and why he loves to run.
It’s always interesting to read about famous people and their lives, and this book about Haruki Murakami is no different.
