A lot of people are eating at McDonald’s and Big Mac is a really popular burger. I am not going to tell you that it’s a healthy alternative or not, there are so many other websites that will give you a lecture about this.

For instance, take a closer look at:

- Big Mac fails the test

- The real price of a Big Mac

- Head of Cleveland Clinic is attacking Big Mac

- Anything wrong with a Big Mac a day?

I am just going to tell you about how much protein you’ll get if you eat one.

According to wikipedia, a Big Mac consists of two beef patties, iceberg lettuce, American cheese, pickles, onion and a special “Mac” sauce, served on a three part sesame seed bun.

One Big Mac contains 540 calories, total fat is 30 g, and total protein is 25 g.

This means that you’ll get a fair amount of protein if you eat a Big Mac alone, but my guess is that you’ll have fries with that. Therefore, you’ll probaly be eating way more than 25 g of protein.

I am eating bread every single day, and so are most people living in Norway, at least that’s what the newspapers are telling us. Most of the time, I eat bread for breakfast and lunch, and sometimes I even eat bread a few hours before I go to bed at night. Sometimes I eat bread just for breakfast, but all in all, I eat bread every single day.

The reason I eat bread is that it tastes good, it’s easy, takes very little time, and I have always thought that bread was a really healthy alternative.

But is bread healthy or not?

Recently, I have read in several newspapers and magazines that bread is not really healthy, and that you should eat as little bread as possible. But does this really relate to all kinds of bread or just white bread, or isn’t it true at all?

The sort of bread I eat consists of whole wheat and whole grain, I am not a big fan of white bread though – even though it tastes great while eating lasagna.

Eating too much white bread can actually make a person susceptible to diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. But that’s not the main reason why I haven’t been eating much white bread. The reason has actually been my stomach. I am not feeling well after eating white bread.

Some have argued that bread is fattening and bad for weight loss, but as far as I know bread is not bad at all when it comes to weight loss.

Actually, it’s hard to figure out the fact about if bread is healthy or not. Because it seems that every month or so, there are new scientific facts related to bread. And it seems that dietitians will always be arguing the facts.

To be safe, if you eat a balanced diet, and you include bread, it’s all good.

I am a huge fan of ebooks. I buy several ebooks each month, but I have one problem though. I don’t like to read them on my computer, because I can’t stand to read more than 10 pages on a screen.

So far, I have been printing every single ebook.

My goal is to find a way to actually enjoy reading ebooks without having to print each one. I am not thinking about the cost of paper or ink, it’s more that I am thinking about the environment and that I have paper all over my office.

I just can’t seem to keep track of all the ebooks after I have read them, they are just laying there, piles of paper everywhere. I guess it would be way better to have them archived on my computer, and a system for reading and storing them.

At the moment I have just bought an ebook of 144 pages, and now, I am about to start printing…

We used to have one, but they had to shut it down a few years ago.

Anyway, a lot of people love the food, and I thought I’d go looking for the protein facts.

I found it.

For instance, a Burger King Whopper has 670 calories, the total fat is 39g and the protein is 14g. A double whopper with cheese, a favorite among some of my friends, has 1061 calories, 69g of total fat and 27g of protein.

If you are looking for protein facts regarding the menu at Burger King, I highly recommend that you take a closer look at The Daily Plate.

The atkins diet is both famous and controversial. The reason why it’s famous, is because it works. It’s awesome for weight loss, at least from what I have read and heard (and watched on YouTube).

As you probably already know, the Atkins diet is a low carb diet. And it mostly consist of eating meat, therefore, the Atkins diet is not something I would recommend or even try.

I am a vegetarian, and I’d like to recommend something for vegetarians or vegans. Now, I have been thinking about the Atkins diet for a few days, and there got to be a vegetarian/vegan alternative.

All you really need to do, is to stop eating foods high in carbohydrates and just maintain the lowest level possible of carbs. And from what I have read, you’ll need to eat mostly eggs, cheese and drink milk. Therefore, it will be difficult for a vegan to stay with the Atkins diet.

Even though vegans will have a very difficult time, they can enjoy part of the diet as they should also eat fresh vegetables, nuts, berries, seeds, some fruits and tofu.

To me, it seems to be really hard to eat no more than 20 carbs a day. I am not sure if I could ever count my calories or my carbs.

But I am very impressed by people who can.

If you want to know more about the Atkins diet for vegetarians, you can order the book: Low Carb Vegetarian from Amazon. It’s not really the Atkins diet, but I believe it comes really close.

If you are looking to loose weight, I have been told that high protein and low carbohydrate diets are usually a safe bet. This is usually why people are considering such a diet.

According to American Academy of Family Physicians this is the definition of low-carbohydrate diets:

Low-carbohydrate diets restrict caloric intake by reducing the consumption of carbohydrates to 20 to 60 g per day (typically less than 20 percent of the daily caloric intake). The consumption of protein and fat is increased to compensate for part of the calories that formerly came from carbohydrates.

A high protein diet is often recommended by bodybuilders in order to lose fat and build muscles.

If you combine the two (high protein and low carbohydrates), you get famous diets like the Atkins diet, but there are also lots of other alternatives, even vegetarian alternatives to the Atkins diet. In this post, I’ll explain why you should consider a diet which is high in protein and low in carbohydrates and I’ll even give you a few examples of such diets.

Normally, the body burns carbohydrates for fuel, by restricting carbohydrates the body will burn fat instead. This is probably the easiest and most simple explanation how it works. A high protein diet, will increase your feeling of fulness (leading to less hunger) and build muscles.

This combination seems to be perfect, lose weight and build muscles (that’s what we all want). But on the other hand, it can also cause health problems;

– Kidney failure
– High cholesterol
– Osteoporosis and kidney stones
– Cancer
– Unhealthy metabolic state (ketosis)

Even though there can be health problems related to a high protein and low carbohydrate diet, there are many people that think such a diet is something worth considering.

But if you think of starting because of weight loss, and remember, the healthiest weight-loss are for the long term, then you might want to read some of the research.

I have never tried it, and I am not sure if I will, but I am the first one to say that it looks interesting.

A traditional high-protein/low-carb diet might look like this:

Breakfast:

Steak and eggs
Cup of tea or coffee without milk

Lunch:

Tuna salad and bacon pita
Small portion of almonds

Dinner:

Broiled salmon with broccoli and cauliflower
Seltzer water

Snacks:

Mixed nuts
Peanut butter scoops

I am not saying that this high protein and low carbohydrate is something you should consider. If you think it looks interesting, be sure to check out the facts and the doubts from many dietitians first.

While camping this summer, I was experimenting with some interesting grilled food. For instance, you can read about my experience with grilled eggplants. As I thought about my vacation, I also thought about the time when I tried grilled squash.

I did it the easiest way possible. I peeled it, and covered it with barbeque sauce. Just some sauce I bought at the local grocery store. The only thing I really remember about the sauce, is that it had garlic. Because my familiy told me this every hour or so after we had eaten. Not sure, but I might have used a little too much of this barbeque sauce.

It was really easy to make, just peel and add some sauce, and put them on the barbeque for a few minutes. That’s all really.

When they were finished, I ate them like a hamburger. I had hamburger buns and sallad on the side. It tasted fairly good, even though I used too much of the barbeque oil.

Grilled squash is a very healthy alternative, not sure about the sauce though, but if you consider the squash itself, it only has about 82 calories (serving size is 205 g), very little fat, good vitamin source, but unfortunately not much protein either, only 2 g per serving.

I am currently reading an awesome book about running, it’s called What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by famous author Haruki Murakami.

The book is not an ordinary book about running, not like The Runner’s Handbook, it’s really not a book about how you can learn to run.

At the moment I have read about half the book, and it’s really fascinating. It’s the story about who Haruki Murakami is, it’s the story about how he became a writer and how and why he started to run. It’s a memoir and a personal story, where he tells his reader about why he loves to run. It takes us through his races and some of his struggles.

Like when he ran a full marathon that ended badly.

… my legs suddenly stopped following orders. They began to cramp up, and it got so bad I couldn’t run anymore. I tried stretching, but the back of my thighs wouldn’t stop trembling, and finally cramped up into this weird knot. I couldn’t even stand up, and before I knew it I was squatting down beside the road.

The reason I bought What I talk about when I talk about running wasn’t just to get inspired to run more and a greater distance, because I have alread read The Runner’s Handbook (great book by the way), but I wanted to read about a famous author and why he loves to run.

It’s always interesting to read about famous people and their lives, and this book about Haruki Murakami is no different.

You might have noticed, or you might have not. I have been to Riga, the capital of Latvia, for the past four days.

It was a very interesting trip indeed. The weather was mostly like what I am used to in Norway, sort of rainy and cold. The people were friendly, and it was like most big cities (apx. 800 000 inhabitants). There were shops everywhere, and they had a market place where people were standing outside in the rain and cold weather and selling all sorts of things.

What I really enjoyed about Riga was the old town and the very nice buildings, and it was very interesting to see all the very rich people. Well, not the people, but the cars and the buildings and the shops and the restaurants specially designed for all the very rich people. I am thinking about the contrast between the very rich and the very poor.

Obviously, there are many poor people in Latvia. I saw them everywhere, and I saw their houses. At the same time, I saw all the very rich people and very expensive cars that I had never seen even in Norway. So, the contrast between the very rich and the very poor was fascinating and a little frightening, and of course, very sad.

Now, as a vegetarian, I was a little worried about what was going to happen when I arrived in Riga. Would I be eating crappy salad for four days, or did they have alternatives? Well, I guess there are always pizza.

The first day was a day when I really got my hopes up. I ate lunch at the hotel (Hotel Albert), and I received a very interesting vegetarian pasta dish. Later that day, I ate dinner at some fancy medieval restaurant in a basement (RozenGrals) and at this place I received an even more interesting vegetarian dish. The day after, I ate at an awesome italian restaurant called Monterosso, and the vegetarian food was delicious. This happened every single day, another restaurant, and another interesting vegetarian dish – I was even at T.G.I. Fridays and ate some nachos.

In the end, I was very happy with the food, and Riga was a great place for a vegetarian.

I might be getting old, even though I don’t feel old at all. Today, I realized that noise is really annoying. Sure, nobody enjoys noise, that’s probably why noise is such a negative word in the first place. But something is happening to me.

The reason I am thinking about my age or my mental stage in life, is that I have become more aware of noise than ever before.

And that’s not a good thing at all.

For instance, when it comes to my computers, I believe that a quite computer is what I believe is that most important part of using a computer. Not the design, not the speed, not the hard drive, but for me to be able to hear nothing. No fan that drives me nuts.

I bought a Dell Inspiron 530s a few months ago, after reading some really good reviews. Guess what, that’s probably the dummest thing I have done in a while, because I am hardly using it due to the fact that the fan is driving me nuts.

I am using my iMac instead, because it’s really quite (and it’s in fact awesome).

Being too aware of noise is a problem when you’re a father of two young kids.

I can’t seem to get any work done before 9 pm, and when I think about it, that’s probably a good thing. This way, I get to spend more time with my kids.

Even though noise really annoys me, I guess sometimes noise isn’t all that bad.
